Community Shapes the Future at Skyway Placemaking Event
Over two transformative days, Homestead Community Land Trust—together with the Skyway Coalition—hosted a powerful community-led event that launched the formal design process for the Skyway Homeownership and Green Space Project.
Held June 7–8, 2025, the event brought together residents, organizers, artists, and architects to explore how the built environment can reflect cultural identity, community values, and a commitment to justice.
Day 1 at Washington Hall focused on the history of systemic racism and displacement through workshops, storytelling, and design activities grounded in BIPOC wisdom and lived experience.
Day 2 at Campbell Hill Elementary centered healing dialogue, creative expression, and peer learning with BIPOC planners and architects.
The weekend closed with participants planting symbolic “seeds of justice and community”—representing shared commitments that will one day take root in the Skyway neighborhood.
