Heat pumps are a way to increase cooling opportunities within homes. By providing heat pumps to community members free of cost, or at a discounted rate - we are making housing improvements more affordable for families.

The Right to Read shares the stories of an NAACP activist, a teacher and two American families who fight to provide our youngest generation with the most foundational indicator of life-long success: the ability to read.

A panel discussion will follow the screening with:

The conversation with Dr. Louis Gates is an opportunity for Skyway community members to be in space with an acclaimed cultural critic and institution builder whose perspective celebrates and affirms our current mobilization efforts towards prioritizing homeownership as a premier strategy in addressing gentrification and displacement.  

Dr. Gates will engage in a dynamic discussion with local arts leader and communicator Vivian Phillips. This event promises to be an enlightening conversation touching upon the historical roots of present-day inequities, shedding light on Homestead and Skyway Coalition's crucial work to promote housing justice in King County.

Our community champion and King County Councilmember, Girmay Zahilay, will deliver remarks at the event, adding another layer of depth to the evening.

Skyway Coalition and Dare2Be purchased 100 tickets, which we offer free to our community and community partners. Transportation support is available to Skyway residents if needed.

The Coalition is a proud sponsor of the Boom Pow Collective Comicon. Our Skyway youth created this fantastic event, so be sure to come out and support them.

This Comicon is free to attend, with a ton of superhero activities such as a House of Heroes Fashion Show, Arcade Games, Super Slime Lab, Jedi Training Academy, Trails of Heroes, Give Comic Shop, a McQueen Raceway Electric Go-Kart, and more!

Superhero costumes are strongly encouraged!

We want to congratulate RIZP as the recipient of the Coalition's inaugural Skyway Community Impact Award. The SCIA celebrates individuals and organizations who have positively impacted the lives of our beloved Skyway residents. This year we are honoring RIZP for their outstanding commitment and service in leading Skyway resource pop-ups, ultimately leading to the establishment of the Skyway Resource Center. We hope you will join us on August 19th during the Skyway Fire District #20 Safety Fair to celebrate the fantastic RIZP team. We are thrilled to announce that Skyway Coalition is a proud sponsor of the inaugural Nia Fest! This event is hosted by Skyhouse Press and will be at Skyway Park on July 22nd from 11 AM - 7 PM for a vibrant community gathering, where we will joyfully celebrate the cultural tapestry of Skyway. Nia, meaning "Purpose" in Swahili, perfectly encapsulates the spirit of this event. Prepare for an incredible day filled with youth-focused activities and inspiring moments.

Parking at the Nia Festival will be limited. 25 parking spaces have been set aside near the event for ADA individuals. Additionally, 20 spaces will be reserved for vendors.

Attendees can also park on Renton Avenue and take the trail down to the park as another option.

Our community has been tirelessly advocating and working towards the affordable housing vision of Brooks Village for nearly a decade. Our community needs to attend the King County Brooks Village Request for Proposals Meeting to confirm our interest and support.

This meeting is a significant opportunity for King County to understand Skyway Coalition's vision in partnership with our community. Our shared vision encompasses increasing homeownership and establishing accessible community-stewarded greenspace.

To achieve our collective goals, King County must transfer the land to Skyway community ownership. We have made substantial progress by having two community groups serve on committees, building plans, and establishing a community-centered contract with our partner, Homestead Community Land Trust. Together, we aim to create truly affordable homeownership opportunities while developing greenspace that will be accessible to and stewarded by our Skyway community.

King County departments will host the third community meeting regarding this land on June 3, from 10 am to 12 pm. It is scheduled for this Saturday. If you're interested, you can review recordings of the first two meetings here.

Please note that this meeting will be conducted virtually via Zoom, and participants must register to access it. To RSVP for the conversation, kindly email your name and contact information to Melissa Aguilar at marias@kingcounty.gov. The Zoom link will be emailed to all registrants before the meeting.

On May 13th, Petah Villages will host an open house. Petah Villages is an inclusionary preschool with the mission to expand local greenspace education and increase youth exposure to greenspace in a way that is culturally responsive to the needs of BIPOC communities.

This free event will celebrate the opening of Skyway Park’s brand new multi-sport court in collaboration with King County Parks and the Seattle Kraken. Come enjoy food from Salima Specialties, learn how to play street hockey, and participate in exciting raffles.
