Participatory Budgeting Awards Ceremony
This special event will be an opportunity to celebrate our PB awards and our community’s achievements. It’s a chance to connect with fellow recipients, Participatory Budgeting volunteers, community members, and King County staff. We’re taking a break to spend time with loved ones, rest, and refresh. The Skyway Coalition team will be out of the office from December 21, 2024, to January 5, 2025. We hope you have a wonderful holiday season and a happy new year. It’s our privilege to serve Skyway, and we're excited to get back to work on January 6!

Skyway Community Design Party
Join Skyway Coalition and our partners for a special event for our project formerly known as Brooks Village. Celebrate the initial Community Design for our Home Ownership & Greenspace Project.

What to Expect: We’re thrilled to present the insights and feedback we've gathered over the past year. We’ve invested significant effort into reaching out and listening to voices from the growing Skyway community.
This is a visionary project set on a 14.3-acre parcel of pristine land located just north of Grocery Outlet in Skyway, situated off Renton Ave S and across from S 116th Pl. In addition to affordable home ownership, some of the priorities identified by community members include urban farming, construction and green job training, publicly accessible walking trails and gathering spaces.

Join us for an exploration of housing, food, and environmental justice! This is a free family-friendly event!

This 14.3-acre project, led by the Skyway Coalition and Homestead CLT, aims to create sustainable homeownership surrounded by green spaces. Some of our community-driven goals are:

Improve your home’s heating and cooling system and save money on your energy bills with a heat pump! King County’s Energize! program is offering heat pump installations in Skyway & White Center with up to 100% cost-coverage for income-qualified households.
Heat pumps are a way to increase cooling opportunities within homes. By providing heat pumps to community members free of cost, or at a discounted rate - we are making housing improvements more affordable for families.

Screening and Panel: The Right to Read
The Right to Read shares the stories of an NAACP activist, a teacher and two American families who fight to provide our youngest generation with the most foundational indicator of life-long success: the ability to read.
A panel discussion will follow the screening with:

A Conversation with Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
We invite you to join us for "A Conversation with Henry Louis Gates Jr." hosted by our trusted community partner, Homestead Community Land Trust, on Thursday, September 7th, at 7:30 PM at Town Hall Seattle. Come show your support for Skyway!
The conversation with Dr. Louis Gates is an opportunity for Skyway community members to be in space with an acclaimed cultural critic and institution builder whose perspective celebrates and affirms our current mobilization efforts towards prioritizing homeownership as a premier strategy in addressing gentrification and displacement.
Dr. Gates will engage in a dynamic discussion with local arts leader and communicator Vivian Phillips. This event promises to be an enlightening conversation touching upon the historical roots of present-day inequities, shedding light on Homestead and Skyway Coalition's crucial work to promote housing justice in King County.
Our community champion and King County Councilmember, Girmay Zahilay, will deliver remarks at the event, adding another layer of depth to the evening.
Skyway Coalition and Dare2Be purchased 100 tickets, which we offer free to our community and community partners. Transportation support is available to Skyway residents if needed.

Boom Pow Collective Comicon
Skyway is having its very own Comicon!
The Coalition is a proud sponsor of the Boom Pow Collective Comicon. Our Skyway youth created this fantastic event, so be sure to come out and support them.
This Comicon is free to attend, with a ton of superhero activities such as a House of Heroes Fashion Show, Arcade Games, Super Slime Lab, Jedi Training Academy, Trails of Heroes, Give Comic Shop, a McQueen Raceway Electric Go-Kart, and more!
Superhero costumes are strongly encouraged!
