Anti-Displacement Workshop #3

Please join us for the third session of the Skyway Anti-Displacement Workshop Series, a community learning space developed by Skyway Coalition in partnership with People’s Economy Lab.

In workshop one, we introduced the Community Development Association (CDA ) model and grounded ourselves in Skyway’s anti-displacement history. In workshop two, we explored Community Wealth Building as a framework for equitable economic development. In this third session, we’ll look at the anti-displacement projects already taking shape in Skyway, hear from project leaders, and explore how a Skyway CDA can best support the work ahead.

Workshop #3: Mapping Skyway’s Anti-Displacement Landscape and Shaping the Role of a Skyway CDA
Thursday, June 4th 2026 @ 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Skyway Resource Center – 12610 76th Ave S, Seattle, WA 98178
Enjoy community, learning, food and door prizes!

In this workshop, we will:

  • Ground ourselves in Skyway’s history, the forces driving displacement and lessons from the first two workshops

  • Explore anti-displacement and housing projects underway in our neighborhood

  • Hear from leaders advancing anti-displacement work in Skyway

  • Identify key gaps, priorities, and opportunities

  • Explore how a Skyway CDA can help strengthen and align these effort

This series is open to residents, community leaders, organizations, and anyone invested in a future where Skyway remains a place where longtime residents, families, and small businesses can stay, grow, and thrive.

Why this matters:
Important anti-displacement work is happening in Skyway right now. This workshop is a chance to take stock of that work, learn from it and continue shaping a stronger community-controlled development strategy for the future.

Skyway Anti-Displacement Workshop #1

Our neighborhood is at a critical moment. As development pressures increase across our region, we continue to organize, plan, and build power to ensure that Skyway remains a place where longtime residents, families, and small businesses can remain, grow, and thrive.

As part of this work, we’re excited to invite you to the Skyway Anti-Displacement Workshop Series, a new community learning space developed in partnership with People’s Economy Lab! This series is designed to support leaders, organizations, and residents (past and present) who want to strengthen local strategies to combat displacement, make development more equitable and build shared community wealth.

Workshop #1: Building the Foundation — Understanding Community Wealth Building & the CDA Model

Event Details:

Thursday, February 26

5:00 - 6:30 PM

Skyway Resource Center: 12610 76th Ave S, Seattle, WA 98178

Free food, door prizes and gift cards!

This first workshop will:

- Ground us in Skyway’s anti-displacement history and current realities

-Introduce Community Wealth Building as a transformative development framework

-Break down the Community Development Association (CDA) model — role, governance, and potential

-Discuss how Skyway can leverage its CDA designation

-Share examples from communities like ours

This series is designed for anyone who is invested in Skyway’s future. No prior experience is required, just a commitment to learning together and building a stronger community.

Why this matters:

Across our nation, communities are developing new tools to prevent displacement and build local ownership and economic power. This series will help Skyway strengthen its collective vision and explore how existing tools — including the CDA designation — can support a more equitable and community-controlled future.

Canceled - Skyway Farmers Market

This event date has been canceled.

It is with heavy hearts that we received the news Skyway Farmers Market & Bazaar scheduled for Sunday, July 27, 2025.

Since 2022, the Dare2Be Project hosted this event in every season—rain, sleet, or snow—without ever missing a date. This decision was not made lightly.

Despite being awarded $150,000 through King County’s Participatory Budgeting process, this organization has not received any of the promised funds. To date, Dare2Be has covered over $83,000 in unreimbursed expenses to keep this market alive. They simply cannot carry this burden alone any longer.

As a vendor partner in this work we are especially grateful to Gloria Brig, Basha Alexander, and Korey Strozier of King County DLS for their tireless advocacy. Their support means everything.

We understand that the Dare2Be Project hopes to return in August and continue building this vital community space. Thank you for your understanding, your support, and your belief in the Skyway Farmers Market and Bazaar's mission.
