Join Our Board

What the Board Does
The board provides leadership, guidance, and oversight to ensure the Coalition stays aligned with its mission and values. Members help shape strategy and support the organization’s growth. The board works in partnership with the Executive Director to provide strategic guidance and oversight, not day-to-day operations.
Your leadership helps guide our efforts to advocate for community, by community. Together, we can push back against the longstanding inequities that have shaped our neighborhoods. Learn more about our movement, mission, and key programs here.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need nonprofit experience?
Not at all. Part of the Coalition’s goal is to share information and help our community members grow in new ways. We encourage a wide variety of voices and experiences to apply. Having nonprofit experience is useful but not a requirement.
What qualities are you looking for in board members?
We value people who care deeply about the Skyway community, bring unique perspectives, and are committed to equity and collaboration. Professional expertise is helpful but not required.
Do I need to live in Skyway?
Living in the neighborhood is not a requirement. However, we do prioritize people who live, work, play, and have strong ties to Skyway.
Are board members paid?
No, this is a volunteer leadership role.
Will there be training or orientation?
Yes. All new members receive an orientation packet, guidance from current board members, and resources to help them feel confident in their role.
What is the application process?
First, submit an application. The applications will be reviewed by the current board then you’ll hear back from us in about two weeks. Selected applicants will be invited for a conversation before final decisions are made.
How long do I serve?
Two years is the minimum time commitment we request of our members.
What’s the average time commitment?
One 2-hour meeting each quarter. These are the core meetings needed. There are also a couple of fun community events and the occasional impromptu meetings as needed.
Do I need to fundraise?
As a board member, there are many options on how you can support and uplift the Coalition. Fundraising is one option, but not the only option. Some examples of how you can commit aside from fundraising are investing skills, services, and building relationships.
I still have questions. Who can I talk to?
