Available positions: Two community organizers

Salary: $30 an hour

Job type: Part-time, about 8-12 hours a month, 8-12 months

Location: Hybrid of remote and in-person; Skyway

Position closing: Letters of interest and applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.

Job Summary:

What do you want the green space at the Skyway Housing and Green Space Project? Do you envision urban farming, nature trails, fruit trees, or medicinal plant gardens in this space? As a Green Space Community Organizer, you will engage with our community to support and inform the design of the future of this green space. You'll help build systems that combat environmental injustices and ensure that Skyway is environmentally healthy and equitable for all residents. Skyway Housing and Green Space Project is a 14.3-acre plot of land and a potential housing development site just off the intersection of Renton Ave and S 116th Pl. We need to reach as much of the Skyway community as possible to make sure we can advocate for what we want and need!

Responsibilities:

  • Experience working in a diverse environment

  • Flexible, interpersonal, organizational, and cross-cultural collaboration skills

  • Participate in monthly planning meetings

  • Meet weekly or bi-weekly

  • Hours and work will increase as community events approach

  • Engage with community and gather feedback on how to best create and maintain a green space

  • Flyering, tabling, presenting, and sharing the community design process to engage Skyway community members

  • Work with local leaders and organizations to get input from the broader community

  • Support logistics and set up community forums

Qualifications:

  • Lived experience in Skyway strongly preferred

  • Demonstrated work experience and/or lived experience in BIPOC and underserved populations

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Desired Qualifications (not required):

  • Experience working on a diverse team

  • Event planning and meeting facilitation experience

  • Community outreach experience

Benefits:

As a temporary contracted position, this role is not eligible for health insurance and benefits.
