Unincorporated Economic BIPOC Alliance

Our alliance was built from established and intentional relationships between our communities and organization leaders.  We united around the shared vision of having our communities represented in the rounds of COVID-19 supplement budgets in King County.

Our campaign was short and impactful.  In April 2020, our alliance pulled together thousands of hours of listening sessions, community feedback and current lived experiences and created a proposal for our Council members to champion through King County Council approval.

Council member McDermott, representing White Center and Vashon, with Council member Zahilay, representing Skyway, worked to win the support of their colleagues during several rounds of council hearings.  Ultimately, our proposal was called to open up from our intended vision of supporting our respective communities to include all of unincorporated King County.

Passed out of council in late May 2022, our alliance is still pushing and engaging with King County Department of Local Services to have the funds allocated to the communities with the greatest needs, as our proposal’s original intent centered.
Founding organizations include Skyway Coalition, Comunidad Latina de Vashon, and the White Center Community Development Association.

UEBA secured $5.25 million for economic development support. More info on the King County website, HERE.
